Flag of Spain
The design of the Spanish flag was changed many times, especially during the times of Spanish expansionist policy in the 16th and 17th century. However, the red and yellow colors remained unchanged. Currently, the flag has three horizontal stripes where the top one and the bottom one are red and the wider middle stripe is yellow. In the left upper part, the national coat of arms is located. Its fields represent Castile, Leon, Aragon, Navarre, and Grenada. Hercules columns on the sides of the coat of arms symbolize Gibraltar and Ceuta. The inscription "Plus Ultra" on a red ribbon wrapped around the columns has been used since the discovery of America and indicates that unlike the original conviction, there is more land in the west direction from Gibraltar.
