Flag of Yemen
The current flag of Yemen has been adopted in 1990 after the unification of North and South Yemen. Prior to 1990, each part disposed with its own flag - northern Arab Republic was using a flag similar to the present flag but with a green five-pointed star in the middle of the white stripe. The flag of South Yemen's Republic differed by blue triangle and a red five-pointed star on the left side of the flag. After creation of the Republic of Yemen, all different elements were dropped from the common flag as a sign of compromise and unity. Thus, only horizontal tricolor in the pan-Arab colors were kept. The colors red, white and black traditionally represent solidarity with the other Arab states.
